Hello, I'm Roland Roller, a senior researcher in Artificial Intelligence with a focus on Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning in Healthcare. My work spans a range of topics including clinical decision support (including multimodality, fairness, and explainable AI), text anonymization, LLM agents and knowledge integration, as well as multilingual information extraction and corpus generation. I am very intersted in interdisciplinary collaboration, working closely with clinicians, domain experts, ethicists and technologists to ensure that AI systems are not only technically sound but also practically useful and socially responsible.

I am affiliated with the Speech and Language Technology Lab at DFKI Berlin and the NLP4Health group. I also serve as a guest researcher at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Technical University of Berlin. If you'd like to collaborate on research, are looking for interesting speakers on AI in healthcare, or just want to exchange ideas, feel free to get in touch!

Outside of research, I enjoy skating during lunch breaks in Berlin Moabit, spend time with my family, and travel whenever I can.

Here some recent highlights:

  • Co-organization of the shared task MedNLP-Chat: Medical Natural Language Processing for AI Chat (NTCIR-18).

  • Co-organization of the symposium 'Menschlichere Medizin durch KI?: Wie neue Technologien das Gesundheitswesen bewegen' in Regensburg in June 2025.

  • Co-organization of Shonan meeting Large Language Models for Health in October 2025 in Japan.

  • Senior Area Chair for ACL 2025.
